Day 2 Garsdale Head to Horton in Ribblesdale (Winston's field) 18.5 miles

Left Garsdale in mist, cleared for 2 glorious hours above Dent Dale when we started to get views of Wherndale and were properly in the North Yorkshire Dales. Stunning scenery, great going. Spooky time on moors when mist returned. But our ponies marched forth bravely. Sun came back later to finish our day.Horses left knee deep in grass at 'Winston's Field' at about 4.30pm.  We'd been a bit nervous about identifying the field - it wasn't at a farm but was a field on the Pennine Bridleway. Winston had described it as having 2 stone walls quite close together with a stream running through the bottom. This is exactly how it was, but there were a lot of stone walls and streams around, Alison's partner at Stone Trails had given us some more detail so when we left the horses and lugged our tack to the road to meet a taxi, we were more confident. We met a 13 year old practicing driving a car on the farm who also confirmed the location.

The taxi took us to civilisation in Horton in Ribblesdale, 3 or 4 miles from the field. It had been a long day but us girls at fab B&B and were nicely full after big dinner.
